HIP funds OK’d for 9 proposals, 25 faculty
Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor Ralph J. Hexter has announced the first of three rounds of new-faculty funding under the Hiring Investment Program, or HIP, aimed at taking UC Davis in new and creative directions. The provost approved nine proposals on topics that include Fundamental Physics and Mathematics of the Universe, Solidifying a National Leadership Role in Poverty, Digital Humanities and Media Ecologies, and Neuroengineering and Medicine, and assigned them a total of 25 full-time-equivalent faculty positions. FIX 50: Stage 2 is (west)bound to pose problems
My commute to campus is relatively quick and straightforward: I get on U.S. Highway 50 at 59th Street in east Sacramento, move to the far left lane (or one lane in, depending on which lane has fewer potholes) and stay there all the way to the UC Davis exit, usually 20 to 25 minutes. Medical device earns alum the big prize in Big Bang!
Benjamin Wang, who earned his B.S. at UC Davis and then went to medical school, wins the 2014 UC Davis Big Bang! Business Competition for his innovation-in-progress: an improved tracheal device intended to help in the prevention of ventilator-associated pneumonia.
