Donor gets the call 20 years after registering
Stem cells from Joanna Friesner of the Agricultural Sustainability Institute are being given to a leukemia patient in another country — all because Friesner signed up as a marrow donor 20 years ago. She didn't give marrow, per se. Instead, the UC Davis Medical Center pulled stem cells from her blood in a painless, noninvasive procedure. Once inside the patient's body, they will set about creating new blood, and — if all goes well — leave him in remission. [ More… ]
Old myucdavis is staying a while longer
The new myucdavis for faculty and staff has been up and running since mid-October, and the campus planned to take the old site offline at the end of the year. RESEARCH: The picture of healthy eating
If you're trying to persuade people to eat better, you'd do well not to use a photo of a hamburger, fries and soda, according to a new communication study. What artists Grant Wood and René Magritte did with oil paints, two UC Davis students replicated with almonds, raisins, garlic, carrots, asparagus and more in crafting masterpieces from California's bounty.
