UC Davis’ first satellite payload, a device to model the current condition and predict the future condition of the spacecraft’s power system, blasted off aboard a SpaceX rocket on Nov. 28 and is now in Earth orbit.
Call for international proposals — Grants of up to $20,000 are available for innovative and interdisciplinary international research with partners in any country, with additional funding available for collaborators from certain areas. (Deadline: Dec. 11)
Road closure — A portion of California Avenue near Cruess Hall will be closed starting Dec. 15.
Dateline publication schedule — The last edition of Dateline for 2025 will be published Tuesday, Dec. 16. We will return Jan. 6, 2026.
The Aggies are through to the quarterfinals and will host the next round of playoffs Saturday (Dec. 13). Thanks to donor support, each employee can claim two tickets to the game, while supplies last.

Claude, a stark-white reptile who gained a cultlike following online, came to campus after his death at the California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco; School of Veterinary Medicine experts determined his cause of death to be liver cancer. (Los Angeles Times)
