Diverse Voices in the Media

Chancellor Gary S. May on March 6 will share the stage with four journalists to discuss ways they can use their platforms to make diverse voices heard. Guests will be Brandi Cummings of KCRA, Byrhonda Lyons of CalMatters, Chris Thomas of ABC10 and Lonnie Wong ’74 of Fox 40 (retired).

A CoHo First: Executive Chef

As a student in the ’90s, Ryan DeGuzman worked at the ASUCD Coffee House. Now he’s back as the eatery’s first executive chef. One of his first actions, as told by UC Davis Magazine: He’s helped relaunch two CoHo platforms, Cooks and Croutons, previously closed due to the pandemic.

A More Inclusive Med School

How did UC Davis become the third-most diverse medical school in the country, in a state that has banned Affirmative Action for decades? It involves recruiting students from underserved areas, bolstering scholarship support and creating a learning environment supportive of each student’s success.

$6M to Grow College Corps

The Office of the Governor will award a $6.4 million grant to expand College Corps at UC Davis, in which students learn and earn while they serve community organizations. Over the next two years, the grant will support 384 students who will work with schools, food pantries and climate action organizations.
