How Far-Right Groups Recruit

Extremist groups are testing out new tactics in order to convince young people to join their ranks, author Cynthia Miller-Idriss said in a visit to the Mondavi Center last week. Her visit was the capstone event of this year’s Campus Community Book Project.

A Fungi Scouting Field Trip

When dozens of students spent a recent weekend hunting for fungi, some finds looked like a cat’s tongue or branching coral, while others were visible only when wet. Still others were poisonous. The trip is a tradition for the introductory mycology course and has roots dating back to the 1970s.

Saving Space for Research

Susan P. Harrison is a member of the National Academy of Sciences who has spent nearly 40 years studying natural diversity in Northern California, including a 15-year study of the McLaughlin Natural Reserve. She is the newest subject in our Among the Academies series of profiles.
