New Faculty Athletics Rep
|
Chancellor Gary S. May has appointed history professor Gregory Downs as faculty athletics representative, a position required by the NCAA to oversee issues related to student-athlete welfare and to protect the academic integrity of the institution as it pertains to intercollegiate athletics. He succeeds economics professor Scott Carrell, who served for a decade.

Honoring Gold Star Aggies
|
Aggies Edward Bitterman and Donald John McDougall came to UC Davis in the same class, enrolling in 1941, before leaving to join the war effort. Both would parachute into Normandy on D-Day, and neither would return home. They’ll be among the 136 Gold Star Aggies honored next week (Thursday, May 25) in the campus’s annual Memorial Day Ceremony at the Memorial Union.

Roth on ‘Recovered Voices’
|
Don Roth, executive director of the Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts, discusses the “Recovered Voices” project, about music and other art banned and destroyed by the Nazi regime, the subject of two concerts and a symposium in April. He also looks back on his 17-season tenure at the Mondavi Center as he prepares to retire Aug. 31.

Safety Month — Week 3: Trainings for outdoors work continue Wednesday and Thursday (wildfire smoke, May 17; and field work planning and preparation, May 18). Week 4: New Employee Injury and Illness Reporting Tool (one-hour training sessions, May 23, 24 and 25, remote).

Police Accountability Board spring public meeting — Quarterly meeting, 4-5 p.m. Wednesday, May 17, remote. Representatives of the UC Davis Police Department will attend the first half of the meeting to answer questions about recent events or other issues of community interest and concern.
|
UC Davis Group Mentoring Program — Call for applications from employees of UC Davis and UC Davis Health, to be mentors or mentees in this six-month-long remote program of large and small group meetings. Deadline: May 19.

Asia Pacific Women in Leadership Mentoring Program — The Association of Pacific Rim Universities is calling for nominations or self-nominations of faculty members to be mentors or mentees in this yearlong program aimed at expanding the pipeline of aspiring APRU female leaders. Deadline: June 4.

All active UC Retirement Plan members and Savings Choice participants (with the exception of Academic Senate members) are eligible to vote for two new representatives from among six candidates.
