The School of Veterinary Medicine kicked off its 75th anniversary last weekend with a host of activities, including an event where George Puterbaugh — a member of the inaugural Class of 1952 — received a standing ovation. The Zoonomia Timeline
|
In a comparison study of 250 modern mammals, a consortium affiliated with the Earth BioGenome Project, headquartered at UC Davis, identifies regions of genomes that are the least changed across species and millions of years of evolution, showing they are likely biologically important and may have implications in conservation and understanding human and animal health.

Our Co-Workers for a Day
|
Young Aggies descended on campus Thursday (April 27) to not only see their parents’ workplaces, but to meet animals, make slime, ride buses, create art and hold bugs. The annual outreach day — sort of a mini-Picnic Day — also provides children with “an opportunity to share how they envision their future and begin steps toward their goals.”

‘Bringing the Bike Stoke’
|
Bicycle Program coordinator Jeff Bruchez writes about springing back to bikes (and winning prizes!) in May. He’s also got the scoop on Loopalooza, May 9; the last monthly bike auction of the academic year, May 10-18; and “Lit Not Hit,” a program offering free bike lights to UC Davis affiliates who complete a short training on night-riding and sign the “Lit Not Hit” pledge.

Sustainability Champion Awards — Call for nominations of environmental leaders on campus — students, staff and faculty/academic staff — who exemplify why UC Davis continues to lead the way in sustainability efforts. Deadline: May 7.

Sustainability Culture Survey — Staff, faculty and students who complete the survey by May 12 will be entered into a drawing with four $125 Davis Co-op gift cards as prizes.

Executive recruitment: Dean-School of Education — A virtual forum with Candidate B will be held at 2:15 p.m. Wednesday (May 3) to hear the candidate’s qualifications and vision for the school.

NEW: Benefits Help Desks — With analysts available to answer questions, and, if requested, meet individually with employees in a breakout room. 10-11 a.m. weekly on Wednesdays, on Zoom.

UC Davis Retirement Help Desks — Are you contemplating retirement within the next four to 12 months? If so, you can get your retirement questions answered locally, during drop-in Zoom sessions scheduled on various days at various times through June 28.
