Posted today in conjunction with the upcoming César Chávez holiday, Chapter 14 of the “Pioneras/os” project recounts the labor leader’s visits to campus. Published last week, “Pioneras/os” by Thomas O’Donnell of the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion is a “HSItory” of UC Davis’ journey to becoming a Hispanic-Serving Institution.

Title Achieved in Just 5 Years
|
First it was women’s gymnastics winning its conference title, now it’s our women’s equestrian team, champion for the first time of the Eastern College Athletic Conference. Unfortunately, the Aggies did not receive a bid to the national championship, but, still, what an accomplishment for a program that is only 5 years old. Go Ags!

Freshman Colin McCarthy has been doing an unusual balancing act ever since he first arrived on campus: splitting his time between his studies and running a Twitter account focused on extreme weather, with posts that have been seen millions of times. He’s this month’s guest on Face to Face With Chancellor May.

Unitrans — Break service through Thursday, March 30, weekend service Friday (March 31, César Chávez Day). Regular service resumes Monday, April 3, with expanded service on the A and Z lines, and a scheduling change on the Z Line.

The UC Davis Farmers Market returns next week for spring quarter with new hours, 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. (opening an hour earlier) and a new location: in front of the Student Community Center, where the organizers hope more students (and staff and faculty) will take the opportunity to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables for healthier eating. The market will be open nine Wednesdays in a row, April 5-May 31.
Discussion and support: Coping With Grief, Loss and Change, March 29, remote. A new parenting group also meets March 29, remote.
The Creative Writing Program hosts Salvador Plascencia, author of the 2006 novel The People of Paper. (April 5, in person)
Ten master’s and Ph.D. students will have three minutes each to present their research, vying for cash prizes and the opportunity to move on to the UC Grad Slam. (April 6, in person; please RSVP)
