Unfold: Spina Bifida Trial
|
In Part 2 of our new season of Unfold, we examine the first human clinical trial using stem cells and surgery to treat spina bifida, a spinal birth defect that can lead to paralysis. You’ll meet a couple who moved from Oregon to Sacramento in the hope the treatment at UC Davis Health would allow their child to walk.

The people who helped create UC Davis’ first general assignment classroom building in more than 50 years came together on Oct. 4 to celebrate the gleaming new space, including its newest tenants: the new University Writing Center and a satellite office of Information and Educational Technology on the fourth floor.

College Corps Goes to Work
|
The Sacramento Valley consortium of the new #CaliforniansForAll College Corps has placed about 180 UC Davis students into paid positions with about 60 organizations in the region, from the Yolo Food Bank to the Davis Joint Unified School District, and some campus organizations such as the Aggie Compass Basic Needs Center.

Putting Nature on Display

The Museum of Wildlife and Fish Biology and the California Raptor Center are celebrating their 50th anniversaries this week, with free events, open to the public. The Bohart Museum of Entomology (only 76 years old) will hold an open house and present a special weekend lecture, both free, coinciding with Aggie Spirit Week.

Flu shots — All employees must receive a flu vaccination or formally opt out by Dec. 1. Shots are available from your health care provider, county clinics and many pharmacies, and at on-campus clinics (two more are scheduled: Oct. 19 and 27).

Free e-waste drop-off — AggieSurplus will accept university-owned property, desk-top sized or smaller, no more than 15 items per drop-off (if you wish to drop off additional items, you must go through the line again). 10 a.m.-noon Wednesday, Oct. 12.

Bikeway-service loop closure — Between Bainer Hall and the bike parking area south of the Teaching and Learning Complex, to allow for glass installation at the Engineering Student Design Center, Oct. 13-14.
