New to the National Academy
|
Three faculty members are among the 120 academics elected recently to the National Academy of Sciences: Kate Scow of Land, Air and Water Resources, Sharon Strauss of Evolution and Ecology, and Geerat Vermeij of Earth and Planetary Sciences. Twenty-five faculty members from UC Davis have now been elected to the sciences academy.

Putah Creek Wetlands proposal — The public is invited to on-site meetings May 11, 14 and 18 to learn about this habitat enhancement and public access project. It would be developed jointly by UC Davis and the city of Davis on university-owned land between Levee Road and the Davis campus’s southern boundary.

Farewell Rally for Vice Chancellor Kelly Ratliff — Wear your Aggie Pride! Fanfare, concessions and games, celebrating her retirement after 35 years at UC Davis. 2-4 p.m. Friday, May 13 (1:30 p.m. for employees of Finance, Operations and Administration).

UC Davis Group Mentoring Program — Call for applications from employees of UC Davis and UC Davis Health, to be mentors and mentees in six-month-long remote program of large and small group meetings. Deadline: June 10.

Women & Philanthropy Impact Award — Call for nominations for this new award from the Women & Philanthropy Advisory Council, recognizing a faculty or staff member who contributes to the advancement of female leaders, demonstrates exemplary leadership, and makes significant contributions to our local and global university communities. Fill up for breakfast and help area burn victims at the 17th annual Student Firefighter Pancake Breakfast, 8 a.m.-noon Saturday (May 14), at the campus’s Station 34. $7 presale tickets (cash, Venmo, Cash App), $8 at the door — all proceeds go to the Firefighters Burn Institute in Sacramento.
Week 3 (May 16-20) includes a webinar on “Wildfires and Smoke Preparedness” (May 18), and highlights the campus’s Air Quality Index Decision Matrix, building ventilation and filtration, and N95 mask training and availability.
