Spring has sprung, and so has Healthy Outside, an initiative that aims to improve our community’s physical, mental and emotional health and well-being, by incorporating “outside” into your regularly scheduled school, work and play. Paint Our Dream Climate
|
Come on out Saturday (March 26) to help paint a mural on a barn along Road 102 between Davis and Woodland in the culmination of the UC Davis Climate Raising Challenge. In a riff on barn raisings of old, this is a mural raising — with art, food and music, free and open to the public — to celebrate and inspire climate activism.

An email from UC Davis and Glint, scheduled to arrive Monday (March 28), will invite you to take this survey aimed at making UC Davis a better place to work. The survey should take no more than five minutes of your time, and Human Resources will donate $2 to the Staff Emergency Fund for every response submitted by April 11.

Skier, Gymnast Win Big
|
Justin Wallasch of the Alpine Ski and Snowboarding Sport Club outraced three other skiers to win the national collegiate championship in men’s ski cross, while Kyla Kessler vaulted, flipped, tumbled and pirouetted her way to becoming the season’s Gymnast of the Year in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation.

Executive recruitment: Vice chancellor-Finance, Operations and Administration — Public forums with the candidates are being held in person. The first is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Friday, April 1, in Ballroom B at the Activities and Recreation Center (ARC).

First-Year Aggie Connections — Faculty, staff and graduate students are invited to serve as facilitators for groups of 25 or so new freshman and transfer students during fall quarter. Each of these “connections” has a theme developed by the facilitator. Information session April 5 and proposal co-working session April 8 (both remote). Proposal deadline: April 22.

Hutchison Drive-Highway 113 improvement project Phase 3 — No access from Hutchison to northbound Highway 113, from mid-March into May. The campus advises this detour: Take La Rue Road to Old Davis Road, where just before Interstate 80, there’s a ramp to northbound 113.

Parking Lot 5A — The north portion of this lot on Old Davis Road is closed through May 10 for utility work.

Staff Assembly Citations of Excellence — Call for nominations for citations recognizing staff members and teams at UC Davis and UC Davis Health for outstanding achievement in one of the following areas: teaching, research, service, innovation, supervision, mentorship, staff/faculty partnership or team. Deadline: April 8.

Diane Power Zimmerman ’72 will discuss her book about the roadside attraction founded by her grandparents. Accompanied by an exhibition of Nut Tree artifacts from the UC Davis Library’s Archives and Special Collections. (March 23, in person)
The U.S. Bicycling Hall of Fame hosts a Women’s History Month program with UC Davis employee Amy Oleynik, who will discuss “How I Rode a Penny-Farthing from Coast to Coast.” (March 24, remote)
Landscape architect’s research project moves to the Chemistry Mounds (near the Silo). Observers welcome! Some seating will be available from the Chair Share project, another way we're trying to enjoy the outdoors. (March 30-April 1)
Book Project Author Visit
The Campus Community Book Project will host Ibram X. Kendi, author of How to Be an Antiracist, for two public programs, Thursday, March 31, in Jackson Hall at the Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts:
