If Not Volunteering on Friday, Rethink Your Commute Plan
|
“We’re asking the campus community to do what they can to lessen vehicle congestion,” says Perry H. Eggleston, executive director of Transportation Services. That means using a car-free option to get to campus or working remotely if possible. Some 12,500 graduates and guests are expected, with twice the number of vehicles on and around campus compared to a typical Friday.

On Pell Grant’s 50th Birthday, UC Is the One Making a Wish
|
The University of California is “passing around” a digital birthday card for the Pell Grant program, which turns 50 years old June 23. The card will be delivered to Congress with an appeal to “Double the Pell.” Student advocates set up an information table outside the MU last week to gather signatures on the card and sign-ups for the UC Advocacy Network, or UCAN.

Each year from June 9 to Juneteenth (June 19) UC Davis honors the memory of Associate Vice Chancellor Walter A. Robinson by engaging in what he was so good at (besides overseeing Enrollment Management): random acts of kindness and intentional acts of equity. Please share your actions on social media, using the hashtags #RobinsonRAK, #RobinsonIAE, #RobinsonEquity. Robinson died in 2019 not long after retiring. Subsequently the campus named the Welcome Center after him.
Faculty and staff save 25% on subscription packages and additional tickets, and have the opportunity for advance purchase of “just added” events through the 20th-anniversary season.
It’s your last chance to see them this spring! On the Chemistry Mounds near the Silo. (9 a.m.-3 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, June 8-10)
Academic and Staff Assistance Program
Mindful Pause and Meditation (June 8, 9 and 13, remote, last sessions of the academic year), and a nutrition workshop, “Build Your Biome” (June 21, remote).
Featuring 12 fiction and nonfiction writers, and poets who are completing their M.F.A. degrees. June 9, free, in person.
“Myth Busters”: Staff from Human Resources will answer “Is it policy or myth?” about university practices. (June 14, remote)
Seven-day circumnavigation sponsored by UC Davis’ Tahoe Environmental Research Center. (June 20-26)
It’s the summer edition of Walker Tracker, with two challenge options: 8,000 steps per day as a team or 8,000 steps per days as an individual. Track your progress online while you see the sights. (June 20-July 29)
