$1B-Plus in Research Funding
|
“This new record for research award funding marks a historic moment for UC Davis,” Chancellor May says, as UC Davis joins an exclusive group of fewer than 20 public universities in the nation surpassing $1 billion in research funding. To be more precise, $1.07 billion in external research funding in fiscal year 2021-22, up $102.9 million from the previous record set last year.

Climate Risk and Recession
|
Distinguished Professor Paul Griffin of the Graduate School of Management discusses the “unpriced risk” of climate change — that is, the failure of financial markets to account for environmental calamity and how it could plunge the economy into recession. He addresses the magnitude of climate risk, what companies and governments can do to lessen it and how people can reduce their financial exposure.

Fall Comes Early in Athletics
|
Yes, it’s still summer, but we have some fallish events on the athletics calendar, including the Aggie Fall Fest, family friendly and free to attend, at UC Davis Health Stadium, featuring student-athletes from a variety of sports, youth clinic and kids zone, photo booths and a girls night out option, Friday, Aug. 19; and football at Cal, Saturday, Sept. 3, complete with a tailgate sponsored by the Cal Aggie Alumni Association.

Call for volunteers for makeup commencement — Ceremonies and Special Events is seeking staff volunteers for the first two makeup ceremonies, 10 a.m. Friday and Saturday, Aug. 26 and 27, to be held in the University Credit Union Center. Call for volunteers for Aggie Orientation — Staff, faculty, students and community members are invited to be on hand to greet new students from Sept. 15 to 19. Shifts are generally no more than two to three hours long. Please submit this interest form by Friday, Aug. 19.

UC’s annual compensation disclosure — As part of the university’s commitment to transparency and public accountability, salary data for the calendar year 2021 has been made available to the public, as of Aug. 5.
