Stop ‘Passing the Harasser’: UC Davis Tells How to Do It
|
A paper issued by the National Academies of Science, Medicine and Engineering last week says UC Davis serves as “a leading example for other institutions aiming to address the ‘passing the harasser’ problem through comprehensive reference checks.” Academic Affairs originated its policy as a pilot project in 2018 and has since expanded it.

Native American Studies Prof Receives Carnegie Fellowship
|
With her $200,000 Andrew Carnegie Fellowship, announced today (April 26), Beth Rose Middleton Manning (pictured here above Alaska’s Eklutna River) will expand her research on dam removal and land restoration. “I’m interested in shifting the focus of these rivers from being a source of energy to sustainers of life,” she says.

Masks Still Recommended
|
Increased positivity rates in COVID-19 testing and elevated levels of the virus in Davis wastewater have campus physicians and the Yolo County public health officer re-emphasizing their “strong recommendations” to wear masks indoors. The recent uptick is likely due to the subvariant BA.2.12.1, more transmissible but causing less severe disease.

Artist-in-residence Hidejiro Honjoh plays the shamisen (traditional and versatile Japanese three-string plucked instrument) in a program comprising five pieces by doctoral composition students. April 29, in person and livestreamed (tickets required for in person; the livestream is free)
UC Davis’ Taller Arte del Nuevo Amanecer (Art Workshop of the New Dawn) hosts this staged reading by the Vacancy Arts Collective, a project of the Davis Shakespeare Festival.
