New Kind of Campus Patrol
|
The UC Davis Police Department has a new kind of officer, and one of her main goals is to make people feel more comfortable. Jena Du ’15 is the campus’s first CORE officer. She dresses in plain clothes, drives a small electric vehicle and can spend time answering questions from the community.

Pollution Linked to Dementia
|
In a study in rats, UC Davis researchers linked traffic-related air pollution to age-related dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease. ”It’s important to know if living close to these roadways poses a significant risk to the human brain as it ages,” toxicologist Pamela Lein says.

Campus photographer Karin Higgins follows up on her “Pandemic Portraits” series with a set of photos of students for UC Davis Magazine. She found that despite days blurring together and loneliness abounding, students are optimistic. “Life happens, and we are learning how to process, deal and move along,” says senior Emma Gibb, above.

Game-Changer in Education
|
UC Davis will welcome its first 12 Redwood SEED Scholars this fall; they’ll join the state’s only four-year residential program for students with intellectual disabilities. “This is a chance for them to go on to make a living wage, to live an authentic life of true freedom,” says co-founder Beth Foraker of the School of Education.
