UC Davis’ Soaring to New Heights program soared back to life May 26 after a one-year absence, bestowing two years’ worth of Diversity and Principles of Community Awards and Disability Awareness Awards, and the Calvin E. Handy Leadership Award for 2021.

Highway 99 closure — Northbound and southbound, between 47th Avenue and Highway 50 in Sacramento, for almost 4½ days straight, 8 p.m. Friday, June 11, to 4 a.m. Wednesday, June 16, for construction. Use Interstate 5 instead. UC Davis Health reminds patients, visitors and employees to allow for extra travel time to and from UC Davis Medical Center and other buildings on the Sacramento campus.

Safety Month — Virtual activities and trainings are planned on different themes throughout June, starting with “Wildfire Preparedness” this week and “Lab Ramp-Up” the week of June 14.

WorkLife Resilience Series — Three parts: Overcoming Challenges (June 10), Burnout (July 8) and Working Hard to Let Go (Aug. 12), all from noon to 1 p.m., all remote.

Road and path closures — West Quad Avenue has been added to previously announced closures in the vicinity of Hutchison Drive and California Avenue, and Bioletti Way south of Hutchison Drive, and the closure period has been extended through June 25, for the Big Shift project.

A virtual show featuring works by graduate students in art, art history, design, English and creative writing, French, music, Native American studies and Spanish. Opening celebration, 6 p.m. Thursday (June 10). Exhibition continues through Sept. 6.
Exhibitions running through Nov. 12 include “Wayne Thiebaud Influencer: A New Generation” and “Arnold Joseph Kemp: I would survive. I could survive. I should survive.” Admission is free, as always, but timed tickets are now required.
Virtual exhibition: Works by Marwin Begaye, presented by the C.N. Gorman Museum.
