$968M: New Research Record
|
UC Davis sets a new record for external research funding, receiving $968 million in awards in the fiscal year 2020-21, up $27 million from the previous record set last year. A primary contributor to this year’s growth came from increased funding related to public health and medicine.

UC Davis’ Center for Integrated Computing and STEM Education (C-STEM) lands an NSF grant of $2.4 million to launch the Ujima Girls in Robotics Leadership Project, assisting Black/African American girls on their way to being STEM leaders in their schools, communities and careers.

UC’s Community Safety Plan
|
UC President Michael V. Drake introduces a series of planned public safety reforms, many of which mirror those already planned or well underway at UC Davis. For example, the plan calls for each UC campus to create a body modeled on UC Davis’ Police Accountability Board, formed in 2014.

It’s How to Be an Anti-Racist by Ibram X. Kendi, history professor and founding director of the Center for Antiracist Research at Boston University. A program of lectures, discussions, exhibitions, films and more will accompany the book, leading up to Kendi’s campus visit and evening talk March 31.

Campus service — Aggie Orientation seeks faculty and staff volunteers, Friday through Tuesday, Sept. 17-21; and First-Year Aggie Connections seeks faculty, staff and graduate students to serve as facilitators for groups of 25 or so new freshmen and transfer students during fall quarter.

Blood drive — 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 25, University Credit Union Center (formerly The Pavilion). Appointments are encouraged.
