Picnic Day: A ‘Silver Lining’

The 107th edition of our student-run campus open house, a virtual event like last year, will reflect the university’s ability to make the best of things during the pandemic. Festivities this Thursday include Doxies and Brews and the Fashion Show, while the Saturday program includes 100-plus events.

Give Day Sparks Enthusiasm
|
This Picnic Day companion event has donors abuzz, establishing a record number of challenges — gifts that will be “unlocked” when other people donate to specific causes like young ICU patients, COVID-19 testing and Lake Tahoe clarity. “We’re greater together on Give Day,” Chancellor May says in a video.

When wildfire smoke lingers over vineyards, the resulting wine can taste like “licking an ashtray,” according to a UC Davis expert. As the climate warms, the university is helping winemakers to learn more about what causes smoke taint and how to identify it.
