$2 Billion Campaign Kicks Off

“Expect Greater: From UC Davis, for the world” will further propel the university’s work to prepare future leaders, sustain healthier communities and bring innovative solutions to the most urgent challenges, while also emphasizing student support. Thanks to early donations, the campaign has already surpassed the halfway mark.

The Electrification of Unitrans

ASUCD Unitrans recently received a federal grant to buy five more battery electric buses, which means the campus-city transit system now has funding for 11 of the buses — three shy of the first major milestone on the way to electrifying the fleet and achieving greater sustainability. Look for the first electric buses to be on the road in fall 2021.

Vet Med and State Agency Form Wildlife Aid Network

Shorebirds and sea lions injured in oil spills have the UC Davis-led Oiled Wildlife Care Network to care for them, and now wildlife injured in fires will have the Wildlife Disaster Network. A partnership between the School of Veterinary Medicine and California Department of Fish and Wildlife, it will involve reconnaissance and a hotline to help locate animals in need of care after fires.

Historian Is the Digital Savior of Rescued Peruvian Archive

Papers documenting 20th- and 21st-century community activism and cultural heritage in Peru have gone from piles on the floor to organized boxes, and now they’ll be going digital thanks to a new project led by UC Davis historian Charles Walker. The records of the Peruvian Peasant Confederation (Confederación Campesina del Perú) will be available online and will be fully searchable.
