Recalling Rep. John Lewis’ Visit to King Hall in 2016

It was an incredible scene in May 2016: Civil rights icon John Lewis, congressman from Georgia, visiting the life-size statue of his mentor, Martin Luther King Jr., at the School of Law, housed in King Hall. Lewis, who died Friday at the age of 80, had come to campus to deliver the commencement address for the School of Law.

Faculty Stalwarts on Diversity Earn Chancellor’s Fellowships

Chancellor Gary S. May and the Davis Division of the Academic Senate announce the inaugural recipients of the Chancellor’s Fellowships for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion — honoring four faculty members for the work they do “to ensure all our students are welcome here and know that they belong here.”

Record-High Admissions; Enrollment Target 39,600

UC Davis offered freshman and transfer admission status for fall 2020 to a record 45,820 applicants — including an all-time high of 29,775 California residents. The campus estimates it will enroll about 9,500 new freshmen and transfer students, a planned increase of about 5 percent from fall 2019, and make gains in the diversity of the incoming class.

Born into an Aggie family, she started attending athletics events as a child, joined her parents in volunteer activities (service that she continues today) and went to work for Undergraduate Admissions in 1972. She spent her entire career in the same unit, having a role in reviewing more than 1.8 million applications and enrolling some 270,000 students.
