New La Rue: Bike lanes and boxes, plus parking
What’s black and green and white (striped) all over? La Rue Road between Garrod Drive and Hutchison Drive, where a makeover has reduced the number of traffic lanes to one in each direction, making room for bike lanes and parallel parking. Also new: the campus’s first “bike boxes,” which serve as holding zone for cyclists waiting to make left turns. We’ve got instructions and graphics. [ More… ]

- Seed Biotechnology Center and Seed Central Forum — The center celebrates its 20th anniversary with a daylong symposium, transitioning at 4:30 p.m. into the monthly Seed Central Forum, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary and will feature a talk by the Seed Biotechnology Center’s founding director, Kent Bradford, distinguished professor, Department of Plant Sciences. - Central Valley Foundation/James B. McClatchy Lecture — Annual lecture focusing on First Amendment issues is presented this year by Pulitzer Prize-winning historian Annette Gordon-Reed, professor of history at Harvard University and the Charles Warren Professor of American Legal History, Harvard Law. Her topic: “Monuments, Shields and Statues: What, and Who, Belongs in the Public Sphere?” (Sept. 18)

- Path closures — A Street between Third Street and Russell Boulevard; and the path between the Art Annex and Mrak Hall, above Lake Spafford — both closed through Friday (Sept. 13) for reconstruction.
