The Aggies made their way into the tournament in dramatic fashion last Saturday, coming from 17 points down in the third quarter to defeat Hawaii, 58-50, in the Big West Conference Tournament final. ‘Corn Queen’ adds Grad Slam crown
The judges in the campus finals say Katie Murphy did the best job of summarizing her research for a general audience, in three minutes or less. A Ph.D. candidate in the Plant Biology Graduate Group, she talked about, you guessed it, corn — specifically its resistance to stress. She advances to the UC Grad Slam Finals in May. [ More… ]
‘Make It Count’ on 3rd annual Give Day
It starts at noon Friday, April 12, and runs online and on campus until 5 p.m. Picnic Day, Saturday, April 13 — a 29-hour fundraising drive for UC Davis students, programs and initiatives. Doors to bigger, brighter ARC open March 27
The Activities and Recreation Center will be closed Monday and Tuesday (March 25 and 26), during spring break. Then, on Wednesday (March 27), come through the main doors again to see the expansion project completed, adding space for strength training and reconfiguring the layout to make room for a plethora of new equipment, while bringing in more natural light. - Call for nominations for the ADVANCE Scholar Award Program — For mid-career and senior, ladder-ranked faculty who will advance gender equity in STEM through their teaching, research or service to underserved communities and/or underrepresented students. Deadline: April 1.
- Call for proposals for the new UC Davis IMPACT Centers Program — This Office of Research initiative is designed to promote new, sustainable, inter- and multidisciplinary research activity that responds to society’s greatest challenges and needs. Deadline for preproposals: April 5.
- Academic regalia for faculty for spring commencements — Caps, gowns and UC Ph.D. hoods are available at no charge through Supply Chain Management; order deadline April 12. Non-UC hoods and UC hoods for degrees other than Ph.D. are available for rent through UC Davis Stores; deadlines March 28 for May ceremonies and April 24 for June ceremonies.
- Call for nominations for student awards — Recognizing individuals (including the outstanding graduating woman and man, and outstanding seniors) and registered student organizations in categories that include leadership, community service and civic engagement, social justice and inclusion, advancing academic and career goals, global engagement and the Principles of Community. Deadlines range from Feb. 15 to April 8.
