Our place in art history

Professor Emeritus Wayne Thiebaud’s paintings can be seen around the world, but, prior to the opening of the Jan Shrem and Maria Manetti Shrem Museum of Art, he never imagined the campus would show his work in anything more than a Quonset hut — just like TB 9, the temporary building that nurtured UC Davis’ first-generation art faculty (including Thiebaud and Robert Arneson) and where art is still made every day.
