- World Refugee Day: Article 26 Backpack — Professor Keith David Watenpaugh will participate in a Facebook Live event from Lebanon, discussing his project to assist refugees in uploading their academic records into the cloud, so that refugees can one day reclaim their right to education (per Article 26 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights). - North American Summer Meeting of the Econometric Society — Walras-Bowley Lecture will be delivered in memory of Martine Quinzii, a UC Davis professor emerita and former chair of economics, who died May 25 in Perigueux, France, after a long illness. (June 21-24)
- “Farrier Services: Hoof Care Myths and Truths” — UC Davis farrier Steve Westman presents the first lecture in the School of Veterinary Medicine’s new series, An Evening With Vet Med, monthly seminars on animal health topics geared toward both large- and small-animal owners interested in learning the latest in caring for their four-legged family members. - “Protest and Resistance in the Trump Era” — Political science professor Hahrie Han, UC Santa Barbara, gives this talk in UC Center Sacramento’s Wednesday Speaker Series. She will synthesize research about the ways in which organization and movements can translate protest and participation into political influence, and discuss the challenges and opportunities that organizations face. Summer exhibitions come with artist-led workshops
The Jan Shrem and Maria Manetti Shrem Museum of Art presents works by Susan Swartz, painter, and Andrea Chung, whose uses collage, printmaking and photography to explore legacies of colonialism and migration. Also this summer, UC Davis MFA graduates will lead three fee-based workshops to assist people in experimenting with techniques inspired by the museum’s exhibitions. [ More… ]
