We're addressing that and other issues in a multiyear improvement project set to begin in August. Phase 1, in the arboretum's east end, includes a series of weirs along a 15-inch drop in elevation, or as described by the arboretum: "Picture a series of large, natural steps with water cascading down." A UC Davis team has developed a microchip with 1,000 independent programmable processors: the KiloCore. "To the best of our knowledge, it is the world's first 1,000-processor chip and it is the highest clock-rate processor ever designed in a university," says Bevan Baas, a professor of electrical and computer engineering.
