Childhood memory

"The pride and joy of my garden are the blackberry bushes," says Bruhn, a Cooperative Extension specialist emerita in food science and technology. "I get 100 baskets a season — they're so ripe, they just fall into your hand when you touch them on the vine. … Picking them always reminds me of (family trips to the coast) when I was a girl." Public forum: Concussion and traumatic brain injury

Evening program Oct. 21 features a multidisciplinary group of UC Davis physicians who are conducting leading-edge research to identify and treat traumatic brain injuries and their long-term aftermath, dementia. Among the presenters: Bennet Omalu, who discovered chronic traumatic encephalopathy in 2002 and determined that it was a factor in the deaths of retired professional football players. [ More… ]

More space, more specialists — that was the reason for an open house last June at the UC Davis Medical Group's Davis Clinic. Now the clinic has more family practice physicians, as promised, and it's holding another open house, Thursday, Oct. 29. [ More… ]

Natural reserves: Research for the ages

Jepson Prairie, Quail Ridge, Bodega Marine, Stebbins Cold Canyon and McLaughlin — far from campus but still very much a part of UC Davis, our five natural reserves, among 39 in the UC Natural Reserve System. The system turns 50 years old this year, and UC Davis is celebrating by putting on an afternoon program, Friday, Oct. 23. [ More… ]
