 Here's to our super staffStaff Assembly's 35th annual Thank Goodness for Staff celebration will be from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thursday (May 7) on Russell Field. More than 6,000 of you have tickets for the Tex-Mex lunch and ice cream social. Tickets are no longer available, but everyone's welcome to come for the fun, including caricaturists and photo booths, and popcorn stands and roving magicians. Mangun to leave social sciences dean's post

COST OF OBESITY: Live from Brookings Institution
UC Davis' World Food Center, Chancellor Linda P.B. Katehi and Professor Ann Huff Stevens, along with UC President Janet Napolitano, are partnering with the Brookings Institution on a presentation and panel on the economic costs of obesity. Office of Research opens incubator, holds expo
- May 7 opening: Life Sciences Innovation Center — The university partners with seed specialist HM.CLAUSE to provide lab facilities for campus entrepreneurs.
- May 8 expo: Illuminating New Opportunities in Research — Learn how the office can offer guidance on securing research funds or translating discoveries into products. Also, two panel discussions: "Advancing Research through Diversity" and "Pathways to Research Impact."

UC Davis and The Permanente Medical Group launch Prep Médico at the School of Medicine — an initiative that aims to increase the number of Latinos who choose to become physicians. Faithful Partner Fund aids K-9 officers

Activities include the Turban/Hijab-a-Thon (today), in which the Muslim Student Association and the Sikh Cultural Association aim to enlighten the campus community about the often misunderstood turban and hijab (headscarf), inviting people to wear one or the other for a day.
