Wellness Fair tomorrow

Running from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday (Feb. 18), this event will cover the eight "spokes" of the Wellness Wheel: physical, environmental, spiritual, emotional, occupational, financial, intellectual and social. Health screenings; food demonstrations and tastings; and guidance on setting up your work station. Also, try a spin bike and get a minimassage. Giveaways and drawings. Release time with supervisory approval is appropriate.

Chancellor recognizes campus STARS

Chancellor Linda P.B. Katehi has heartily endorsed the nominations of 22 staff members as UC Davis stars in the second annual campuswide STAR Award Program. This year's recipients — twice as many as last year — include a three-person team at Student Health and Counseling Services, and a team of six in Student Affairs, plus 13 individuals in such jobs as student affairs officer, principal museum scientist, management services officer, client services manager, executive director of the Academic Senate and director of Institutional Review Board Administration. Gail Goodman, distinguished professor of psychology, is named the recipient of the American Psychology-Law Society's Award for Distinguished Contribution to Psychology and Law. UC Davis and the Department of Physics have crafted an usual arrangement with David Nisson and his mother, Mary, so David can pursue his doctoral degree. He has classic Kanner/Savant autism, a severe disability that requires assistance from an aide, who in this case is David's mother. ARBORETUM: Elderberry Flute-Making Workshop

Sunday, Feb. 22, 1-3 p.m., 146 Environmental Horticulture

A family program about the Native California tradition of making flutes from elderberry. East Bay Regional Parks docent Antonio Flores teaches how to make and play the flutes, and also talks about the culture of flute making. He also will talk about the endangered elderberry beetle.
