Campus appoints first ombudsperson: Susan Park

The chancellor's office this week announced the appointment of Susan Kee-Young Park as the campus's first ombudsperson, to provide confidential and independent conflict resolution services to faculty and staff. Park previously served as ombudsperson at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston and the University of Hawaii, Manoa. She is due to start her new job on June 3. [ More… ]

Undergraduate Research, Scholarship and Creative Activities Conference

From designing a robot to search buildings in a disaster to telling the story of a cross-cultural experience through a quilt, more than 500 students will share their discoveries and artistic creations today and tomorrow (April 26-27) at three campus venues. Geophysicist, historian elected to American Academy of Arts and Sciences

Louise Kellogg is the director of KeckCAVES, which uses an immersive, three-dimensional "virtual reality" environment to explore large sets of geological data; and Susan Mann is a historian of women in China and a past recipient of the Faculty Research Lecture award. "It's a fitting recognition of the great contributions they have made, and continue to make, to science, education and scholarship," said Chancellor Linda P.B. Police honor employee, officer of the year, 2 campus citizens

Awards go to Bob Lieske as the employee of the year and Detective Joanne Zekany as the officer of the year, and to two citizens of the year, both of them campus citizens: postdoc Nicolas Andrews, who aided a police investigation; and Gia Hellwig, event coordinator at the School of Law, who provided logistical support for the Police Department's outreach efforts to the campus community. … Also, Yolo Post 77 of the American Legion names UC Davis firefighters of the year: Kyle Dubs of the regular force and Nick Sowa, student firefighter.
