Fall Convocation: It's Monday!

The Fall Convocation (10 a.m. Monday) takes an artistic turn this year: "Celebrating the Arts!" — as embodied in the Division of Humanities, Arts and Cultural Studies and in the Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts on the eve of its 10th anniversary season. State courts to hear cases in King Hall

It was built for students, of course, but, as the name implies, the School of Law's Kalmanovitz Appellate Courtroom is perfectly suited for actual appellate proceedings. Last year the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals became the first appellate panel to use the courtroom, and next week and the week after a state appellate court and the state Supreme Court will use it, too, both for the first time. Drug for fragile X syndrome effective, potential for autism, too

A MIND Institute study has found that a compound targeting the core symptoms of fragile X syndrome is effective for addressing the challenging behaviors of the condition, making it the first such discovery for fragile X syndrome and, potentially, the first for autism spectrum disorder. … Other campus researchers have uncovered striking new evidence suggesting that diet and related factors early in life can boost the risk for breast cancer. Cutting-edge startup aims for nano-close shave

An engineering professor's new company aims to bring you a better shave through semiconductor manufacturing technology. Nano-Sharp Inc. plans to use silicon wafers to make razor blades and surgical tools far more cheaply than current silicon or ceramic blades. It's one of three new companies in the College of Engineering's incubator, the Engineering Translational Technology Center. [ More… ]
