As chief justice of the California Supreme Court, UC Davis alumna Tani G. Cantil-Sakauye had visited her alma mater before — but never with her entire court. This week, all seven justices were here — holding a regular session in the Kalmanovitz Appellate Courtroom in King Hall. Clery Act crime report for 2011 released

Crimes reported at UC Davis in 2011 showed little change from the previous year, according to the annual report filed in compliance with the federal Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act. "UC Davis is a relatively safe campus," Police Chief Matt Carmichael said. "Our job is to keep it that way." [ More… ]

Federal funding for Latino Aging Research Resource Center

The National Institute on Aging provides $3 million, and the university provides a nationally respected team of nurses, physicians and mental-health professionals, to launch this new research center. ... Bone health expert Nancy E. Lane receives a $7.2 million federal grant to establish a center to explore sex differences in musculoskeletal conditions such as osteoporosis. [ More… ]

Nobel laureate to give public talk on brain injuries

Friday, Oct. 12, 5:30 p.m., Freeborn Hall

Stanley Prusiner is due on campus to give a free public talk on "Brain Injuries: Soldiers, Football Players and Alzheimer's Patients." The neurologist, a professor at UC San Francisco, discovered a class of infectious proteins that cause mad cow disease and related neurodegenerative ailments in animals and people. [ More… ]
