UC Davis Foundation Board raises $1 million-plus for students

Current and emeriti members of the foundation board and UC Davis administrators — led by board Chair Bruce Edwards '60 — personally gave $1.04 million to create a universitywide matching fund to endow student scholarships, fellowships and awards. 3 teams compete for art museum design and construction

UC Davis taps three innovative architect-contractor teams to compete in the creation of a design for the Jan Shrem and Maria Manetti Shrem Museum of Art. Each team will have four months to create a design and prepare a bid. The competition will culminate in public presentations followed by announcement of the winning design. [ More… ]

Chancellor's fellows: Honoring 'truly extraordinary accomplishments'

The new chancellor's fellows are Toby Allen, chemistry; Mary Cadenasso, plant sciences; Catherine Chin, religious studies; Christina Cogdell, design; Nicholas Curro, physics; Nael El-Farra, chemical engineering and materials science; and Peter Lee, law. Each receives a $25,000 prize and retains the chancellor's fellow title for five years. [ More… ]

Campus counsel's office to be enhanced; new chief to be recruited

Chancellor Linda P.B. Katehi says the Office of the Campus Counsel will be enhanced and a new chief campus counsel hired to better accommodate evolving needs, including "additional expertise and experience in negotiating research and service agreements with a diverse business community [and] broader experience dealing with a variety of increasingly complex political entities." Opening soon: A 'new' road that's still 'old'

The last section of the "new" Old Davis Road, which could be open by mid-December, will take cars off the section of Old Davis Road that runs alongside the arboretum waterway — freeing the old road for bicyclists and pedestrians only. … The west entry gate on Hutchison Drive is being pushed out, toward La Rue Road, about 400 yards — making for an expanded "campus core" where most cars and trucks are prohibited. It is a safety project, reflecting increased foot and bike traffic along this section of Hutchison. [ More… ]
