'My name is Matt': 10-year UC Davis police veteran sworn in as chief

State of the campus: 'Strong,' despite many challenges
Despite the many challenges we face, "the state of our campus is strong," Chancellor Linda P.B. Katehi declared April 17 in her third annual address to the Academic Senate. Katehi cited a number of accomplishments during the last year, including a 10.5 percent jump in research money in the first half of the 2011-12 fiscal year, compared with the same period in 2010-11. Conductor emeritus Holoman preserves 'the Munch legacy'
D. Kern Holoman, Distinguished Professor of music and conductor emeritus of the UC Davis Symphony Orchestra, has a new book out, and it's getting quite a bit of attention. Titled Charles Munch, the book is the first English-language biography of the influential conductor. Holoman will be signing copies at the Avid Reader on April 27 and at a May 6 Mondavi Center performance by the UC Davis Symphony Orchestra. [ More… ]
Modular robots win NSF funding
A robotics company started by engineering professor Harry Cheng and a former graduate student has been awarded a second round of funding from the National Science Foundation's small business innovation research program. Cheng hopes his modular robot, or "Mobot," can become a useful tool for teaching robotics as early as third grade, and engage a new generation in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
