Review period opens for proposed voluntary reduction in time program

The UC Office of the President is asking for employee comments on a new voluntary reduction in time proposal under which career staff could cut their hours from 5 percent to 50 percent, affecting their pay but not their benefits. UCOP also announced that it will cut roughly $50 million from its annual operating costs and return oversight of some programs to the campuses, as part of a larger effort to give UC chancellors as much budget flexibility as possible. In more than 15 years in the fire service, Nathan Trauernicht has never been on a call like this one. He has been summoned to 17th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, D.C., to meet Vice President Biden. Trauernicht and others from the International Association of Fire Chiefs will be thanking Biden and the Obama administration for their support of dedicated broadband communications for public safety agencies. 10-year-old Mondavi Center to host U.S. premiere of Blanche Neige

The Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts celebrates its 10th anniversary in 2011-12 with the U.S. premiere of Ballet Preljocaj's Blanche Neige (Snow White), described by the center's executive director as "the greatest story ballet of our new century." Subscription sales are set to begin Saturday, April 9, and, as in years past, staff and faculty receive a 30 percent discount on prepackaged series and 25 percent off choose-your-own plans. Cultural celebrations start with the Powwow

UC Davis celebrates its multiculturalism with a round of special days and weeks every spring, with this year's calendar leading off with the Powwow this weekend and Native American Culture Days next week. After that will come Asian Pacific Culture Week, La Raza Cultural Days, Mixed Heritage Week and Black Family Week, all of which, like Native American Culture Days, are organized by students.
