Human and animal docs team up to help dog swallow
A 1-year-old dog named Mojito appears to have a healthy life ahead of him, thanks to doctors from the medicine and veterinary medicine schools who collaborated on a unique surgical procedure to treat the canine's near-fatal swallowing disorder. Ready for her first space walk
Alumna astronaut Tracy Caldwell Dyson, who blasted off from Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan April 2 for a six-month stay on the International Space Station, is busy doing science as she orbits the Earth. The campus is boosting computer security by requiring all users to replace their passwords with passphrases, ideally well before October. Otherwise, your account password will be assigned an expiration date ranging from about Oct. 11 to Dec. 3. [ More… ]
TGFS: Annual picnic set for May 12
Next week brings the 30th annual Thank Goodness for Staff Picnic. Staff Assembly's executive committee encourages staff to turn out May 12 for the food and fun and well deserved recognition for jobs well done. Coffee hut fire being treated as arson
The fire that destroyed a coffee kiosk next to King Hall on the UC Davis campus April 30 is being treated as arson. The UC Davis Police and Fire departments, and the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are investigating the fire. They are also investigating a suspicious object found May 1 at the Cargo Coffee kiosk outside Olson Hall. [ More… ]

Engineering III becomes Mohammed S. Ghausi Hall
Mohammed S. Ghausi this week became the third dean to have a building named after him in the College of Engineering. The naming ceremony took place May 6 at the building formerly known as Engineering III. Ghausi served as dean from 1983 to 1996, a period of strategic growth marked by expanded teaching and research programs, and increased diversity. [ More… ]

UC Davis' goClub is giving away two new bicycles this month to encourage staff, faculty and students to two-wheel their way to and from campus, not just in May (which is Bike Month in the Sacramento region) but all through the year.
