It's a family affair Bustos family

UC Davis and Bustos Media are reaching out to Latino parents about getting their children ready for college through a series of public service announcements airing on Spanish-language radio stations. The campaign's theme is that children's success in school is the trabajo de todos, or "the work of everyone" — the students, their families, teachers and the community. [ More… ]

UC Davis announces new endowed positions

The close friendship and legacies of two UC Davis giants — Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Gary Snyder and the late entrepreneur Charlie Soderquist — is being memorialized this year in one of six new endowed faculty positions. The positions in science and humanities, environmental toxicology, rangeland watershed science, entrepreneurship and opera bring the number of endowed chairs and professorships at UC Davis to 120. Civility at heart of healthy democracy

"There are few greater threats to civilization than intolerance," said Jim Leach, chairman of the National Endowment for the Humanities, during an April 8 talk on campus, part of the new Chancellor's Colloquium series. His talk, which came at an important time for a campus that has witnessed several acts of intolerance in recent weeks, is available for viewing online. [ More… ]

Staff and faculty: Our vets want to care for your pets

The School of Veterinary Medicine has expanded its Community Practice for Small Animals, and, to provide an adequate client load, established a 10 percent discount for staff and faculty from all over UC Davis. For added convenience, the program offers "day condos," where you can board your pet, then go to work — until returning for your pet's appointment. [ More… ]

UC Davis is throwing its 96th Picnic Day on Saturday, April 17, seizing the opportunity to show off all things Aggie — our people, our academics, our campus — with a whole lot of fun thrown in. Provost Pitts to visit campus

Even before the UC Board of Regents recently removed the "interim" from his title, Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor Lawrence H. Degrees of justice

Roosevelt ordered the relocation of about 120,000 Japanese Americans to internment camps in the Western U.S. Nearly seven decades later, UC Davis awarded honorary degrees to 47 former Aggie students whose education was cut short. Post-employment benefits forum

Monday, April 19, 10 a.m.-noon, Activities and Recreation Center Ballroom

Representatives from UC's Post-Employment Benefits Task Force are due back at UC Davis for a second round of forums, one on the Davis campus and one on the Sacramento campus. The Sacramento forum is full, but some seats remain for the Davis campus event. The Davis forum will be broadcast live on the Web, and a recording will be archived online for later viewing.
