Campus prepares for H1N1 influenza
Anticipating a difficult H1N1 flu season, UC Davis is asking deans and department chairs to plan how faculty members will accommodate sick students, and how they will cover their classes if many faculty members are out sick. Budget crisis leads to major reorganization
UC Davis is wasting no time in changing the way we do our administrative business, for increased efficiency and effectiveness at less expense: The Office of Administration and the Office of Resource Management and Planning merged on Oct. 1, a move expected to save $900,000 a year. [ More… ]
Campus sexual-assault statistics were too high
A series of reviews finds that the longtime director of the Campus Violence Prevention Program inflated three years of numbers of sex crimes in federally mandated reports, and also improperly charged travel expenses to a federal grant. Jennifer Beeman, now retired, remains under investigation. The correct crime numbers are explained in this year's Clery Act report. [ More… ]
Staff Open Forum planned
A Staff Open Forum is scheduled from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Oct. 15 in the ARC Ballroom. The chancellor and provost and others will present information on the vision for the campus, budget updates for 2009-10, initiatives to help the campus address the budget crisis, and furlough and campus closure issues. Ag economists document decline in productivity
Food around the world is likely to become scarcer and more expensive if the United States and other developing countries do not bolster their investment in agricultural research, warns a team of economists from UC Davis and the University of Minnesota. Neal Van Alfen, the dean of the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, received an in-depth perspective on the issue of world hunger when he attended the Sept. 26 United Nations meeting on Partnering for Food Security in New York. Wine tasting: Gold Country wines

The first Wednesday of the month brings the Wednesday Night Wine Flight, held at the Gunrock Pub and co-sponsored by the pub and the Cal Aggie Alumni Association's Vintage Aggies Wine Club.
