Also, state income tax withholding is going up by 10 percent as of Nov. 1 — to be reflected on your Nov. 25 paycheck, if you are paid biweekly, or your Dec. 1 check, if you are paid monthly. Holiday office closures and union notice
This year, the seasonal administrative holidays fall on Thursday, Dec. 24; Friday, Dec. 25; Thursday, Dec. 31; and Friday, Jan. 1. In addition, the Davis campus will be closed on Dec. 28-30 as part of the UC furlough plan. Unit heads who wish to close their offices or reduce office hours on additional days surrounding the holiday dates may do so, with the approval of their dean or vice chancellor. [ More… ]
Mandatory flameproofing of yuletide trees
Flame-retardant certification is required for all yuletide trees and other cut greenery displayed in indoor areas frequented by students, staff and faculty. Campus units may schedule treatment and certification Nov. 23 through Dec. 18; UCDHS units may do so Dec. 7 through Dec. 18. [ More… ]

Clark Kerr lecture: 'Searching for Utopia'

The University of California's Clark Kerr lecture series, on the role of higher education in society, is coming to UC Davis for the first time. Hanna Holborn Gray, president emeritus of the University of Chicago (1978-93) and the Harry Pratt Judson Distinguished Professor of History at that university, will speak on "Searching for Utopia." Raptor Center open house
Saturday, Nov. 21, 8 a.m.-2 p.m., California Raptor Center
Free activities at the California Raptor Center begin with a Hawk Walk at 8 a.m., followed by the open house 9 a.m.-2 p.m., with special presentations at 10 a.m. and noon. The center, a program of the School of Veterinary Medicine, rehabilitates injured raptors and releases them back to the wild. [ More… ]
