UC Davis to test emergency alert service
UC Davis is scheduled to conduct an all-out test of its WarnMe emergency alert service — for providing timely information and instructions in major emergencies — on Wednesday, April 22. Campus emergency officials urge faculty, staff and students to check that their contact information, including home and cell phone numbers, is registered with WarnMe and that spam filters on their computers are configured to accept the e-mail notification. Admissions more selective for fall
UC Davis has accepted fewer than one in two freshman applicants from California high schools in a year of both record-setting applications and enrollment curtailed by budget cuts. With a record high of 39,288 applicants from California high schools, UC Davis admitted 18,146, or 46.2 percent, to begin freshman studies this fall. [ More… ]
Nearly 1,000 respond to furlough survey
Staff Assembly's survey on the possibility of furloughs drew nearly 1,000 responses in one day, giving a good indication of the level of concern among employees. The survey came on the heels of UC President Mark Yudof's memo this week stating that the Office of the President is preparing a contingency plan for furloughs and-or pay cuts. [ More… ]
U.S. Bicycling Hall of Fame chooses Davis
Bicycle-friendly UC Davis and the city of Davis are beaming today with the announcement that the U.S. Bicycling Hall of Fame intends to move to Davis. The plan is to integrate the hall of fame and the California Bicycle Museum, in which the university and the city are partners. [ More… ]
Senate, federation organize joint awards ceremony
A joint reception is scheduled for April 16 for the latest recipients of several Academic Senate and Academic Federation awards: Distinguished Teaching and Distinguished Scholarly Public Service for senate members, and Excellence in Teaching and Excellence in Research for federation members. The reception also will honor Charles H. Langley, distinguished professor, evolution and ecology, as the recipient of the senate's Faculty Research Lecture Award. An April 27 dinner is planned for the recipient of the Charles P. Nash Prize for 2009. [ More… ]
In brief: Trees, fires, travel, diversity, senate meeting
UC Davis was named a Tree Campus USA and will co-sponsor a downtown Arbor Day celebration April 22; the campus Fire Department doused two small fires at a south entry construction site on April 4; the UC Travel Management Council has created Connexxus, a new online portal for booking university travel; the April 13 spring meeting of the Academic Senate has been postponed to May 7 because of a scheduling conflict. Mondavi 2009-10 performances: Affordable and fun
The Mondavi Center's eighth season, revealed last week, includes a couple of scheduling "twists" intended to keep people coming to the theater and to keep series subscriptions within reach during these tough economic times.
